information between industrial, academic, defense and other organizations on
an international basis in the areas of ROV's, undersea robotics and artificial
intelligence; to provide speakers to academic institutions, to increase the
participation of students in the society and areas of ROV and undersea technology;
and to produce technical publications related to ROV technology.
About Us
The ROV Committee is the Marine Technology Society's largest
committee. It is a very diverse professional committee within the Advanced Marine
Technology division. In support of the MTS mission, it carries out numerous
professional activities including producing the annual Underwater Intervention
Conference. The committee also offers scholarships and educational opportunities
for students. One example of this activity is support for the Marine Advanced
Technology Education Center (MATE), including an annual cash contribution to
support a student ROV competition, lectures by committee members, and Board
representation by the ROV Chair, Drew Michel. MATE is an organization that provides
training to high school and junior college teachers to help them get youngsters
interested in the ROV world. This outstanding program has enabled more than
500 students to design and build ROVs and enter them in regional and the national
competitions.
